Cisco Firepower 2100

The Firepower 2100 firewall is a member of NGFW security platforms that provide business resiliency through threat defense. It brings exceptional sustained performance when advanced threat functions are enabled. These devices uniquely incorporate an advanced dual multicore CPU architecture that optimizes firewall, cryptographic, and threat inspection functions simultaneously.

The throughput range for this series addresses use cases from the Internet edge to the data center. Network Equipment Building Standards (NEBS)- compliance is supported by the   2100 Series platform. The 2100 Series platforms can run either the Cisco ASA Firewall or Cisco Firepower Threat Defense (FTD).  All ASA or FTD features can be activated by using a Cisco Firepower 2100 license

Firepower 2100 Management

For this series, Chassis management is independent from applications. Customers can use on-box Cisco FDM chassis manager, or use CLI, REST API, ASDM, and Cisco Security Manager (CSM) for ASA or Off-box Firepower Management Centre (FMC) and REST API for FTD. For each management method you need to configure the manager on the device's CLI.

Cisco Firepower 2100 Models

Cisco FPR 2100 models are available as it follows:

Cisco Firepower 2110 with FTD supports up to 2.3 Gbps Throughput including FW plus AVC and IPS (1024B), 1 million Maximum concurrent sessions with AVC, 365 Mbps for TLS, 800 Mbps for IPSec VPN Throughput (1024B TCP w/Fastpath) and 1,500 Maximum VPN Peers.  

Cisco Firepower 2120 with FTD supports up to 3 Gbps Throughput including FW plus AVC and IPS (1024B), 1.5 million Maximum concurrent sessions with AVC, 475 Mbps for TLS, 1 Gbps for IPSec VPN Throughput (1024B TCP w/Fastpath) and 3,500 Maximum VPN Peers. 

Cisco Firepower 2130 with FTD supports up to 5 Gbps Throughput including FW plus AVC and IPS (1024B), 2 million Maximum concurrent sessions with AVC, 735 Mbps for TLS, 1.5 Gbps for IPSec VPN Throughput (1024B TCP w/Fastpath) and 7,500 Maximum VPN Peers. 

Cisco Firepower 2140 with FTD supports up to 9 Gbps Throughput including FW plus AVC and IPS (1024B), 3 million Maximum concurrent sessions with AVC, 1.4 Gbps for TLS, 3.2 bps for IPSec VPN Throughput (1024B TCP w/Fastpath) and 10,000 Maximum VPN Peers. 

Firepower 2100 Network Interface

In Cisco FPR 4100, supervisor attaches security modules to network and all interfaces are called “Ethernet” and 1-referenced (i.e. Ethernet1/1), all external network ports require Fibre or copper transceivers (SFP) and third-party SFP are allowed on best-effort support basis.

Cisco FPR 2100 can be supported in the Cisco smart licensing. This makes it easier to manage and move license between different product instances.  

Cisco Firepower 2100 Smart Licensing 

The Firepower 2100 supports Cisco’s innovative licensing structure known as smart licenses. Currently, there are two types of license entitlement is available for this series:

• ASA License Entitlements: Support for Strong Encryption, Security Contexts, Carrier Inspections.

• FTD License Entitlements: Support for Threat, Malware, and URL Services. To enable full FTD capabilities on Firepower series you should purchase –TMC smart licenses.

By purchasing the Firepower 2100 license assigned to a smart account, all product instances would be registered on Cisco Smart Software Management Website. Although, for network architectures that has no connectivity to the Internet, Firepower 2100 PLR licenses could be helpful for activating all product features in the offline condition.
