Cisco FMC (Firewall Secure Management Center)

The Cisco Secure Firewall Management Center (FMC) is an administrative service to manage Cisco security products running on multiple platforms. The Cisco FMC provides unified management of Cisco Firepower with Threat Defense (FTD) software for port and protocol control, application control, IPS, URL filtering, and malware protection functions. Cisco Firewall Management Center is the centralized event and policy manager for the following Cisco’s security platforms:

• Cisco Secure Firewall with the Firewall Threat Defense (FTD) OS (FPR with FTD)
• Cisco ASA with Firepower Services (ASA with SFP module)
• Cisco Secure IPS (Firepower Next-Gen IPS / NGIPS)
• Cisco Firepower Threat Defense for ISR Routers
• Cisco Malware Defense (AMP)

Cisco Firewall Secure Management Center can be deployed either as a hardware appliance or as a virtual machine.

Cisco FMC 1600 is a hardware appliance which supports up to 50 sensors managed, 30 million maximum events, 2 x 1 Gbps network interfaces.

Cisco FMC 2600 is a hardware appliance which supports up to 300 sensors managed, 60 million maximum events,2 x 1 Gbps RJ45 onboard and 2 x 10 Gbps SFP+ network interfaces.

Cisco FMC 4600 is a hardware appliance which supports up to 300 sensors managed, 750 million maximum events, 2 x 1 Gbps RJ45 onboard and 2 x 10 Gbps SFP+ network interfaces.

Cisco FMC Virtual Machine is a virtual solution that supports up to 25 sensors managed, 10 million maximum events, 250 GB event storage.

Cisco FMC300 Virtual Machine is a virtual solution that needs more resources than FMCv and can be handful in enterprise data centers.

Cisco Security Licenses

Cisco FMC License

Cisco Firepower Management Center allows you to manage different licenses for various platforms such as ASA, Firepower and etc. A single Firepower Management Center can manage both devices that require Classic licenses and Smart Licenses. The FMC can be deployed in both hardware and virtual solution on the network. A hardware Firepower Management Center does not require purchase of additional Cisco FMC licenses or service subscriptions in order to manage devices though the Firepower Management Center Virtual has additional licensing requirements.

Moreover, by using Cisco FMC PLR License all premium features for FMC itself and all Firepower devices (up to 25 different devices) would be activated permanently while assigning this license requires no connectivity to the Internet. Using Cisco FMC PLR license, all the following licenses would be activated on all FTD devices being managed by FMC:
